Amaze your audience with your presentation skills.

For many of us, public speaking is a hurdle we find difficult to overcome. Add to that the factor presenting in another language and for many it becomes a barrier they cannot cross.

Fortunately, you can learn how to give presentations with confidence even if it's in another language! With these 6 tips you will impress everyone during your next presentation.

    1. Believe in yourself

A good presentation is only as strong as your belief in yourself and your story. After all, if you don't believe in yourself, why should your audience?

Be enthusiastic and you will have your audience on board immediately (even if all you are presenting is a boring set of statistics).

    2. List your key sentences

It may help you if you write out your text in full. This way you can practise the necessary vocabulary and key sentences and avoid long silences during your presentation because you cannot find the right words.

Are you using slides during your presentation? Remember that your slides are only a visual aid and not a tool for reading off your full text. Make sure that they convey the core of your story in a structured way.

    3. Practise out loud

A presentation is something you have to practise out loud, not silently in your head. Keep repeating your presentation until your story flows, then nothing will happen to you, even if you get a bit stressed.

On the other hand, don't overdo it.

Make sure you still remain spontaneous during your presentation and avoid reciting your text like a robot.

    4. Don't let stress take over

There is such a thing as a healthy dose of stress when you have to give an important presentation. There is nothing wrong with that. But make sure the stress does not take over and affect your delivery.

Is this a point of attention for you?
Then take the time to put your presentation on point, and start on time. If you are relaxed when preparing, you are more likely to be relaxed when giving your presentation too.

    An extra tip?

Practise your presentation during the day so you can relax the evening before.

    5. Take time to breathe

Stress can easily get the better of you. It quickly makes you babble on and stops your audience from following your story. Try to pay attention to this because it gives you and your audience so much more peace during your presentation

Don't talk too fast and make sure there are silences in your story.

Take time to breathe. This way you have time to calmly build up your presentation, which will help your audience process all the information.

    6. Overcome your obstacles: call in help

Presenting is something you can learn so be aware that you will become better and better at it as you gain experience.

If you have real difficulties with specific aspects of presenting, it is important to name those obstacles.
