Work better together in a multilingual context.

If you regularly work with non-native speakers you are probably already familiar with the challenges of a multilingual context.

Language differences prevent colleagues from speaking up at meetings; nuances are not always clear and lead to miscommunication; informal contacts are difficult and colleagues seek out their linguistic peers.

A multilingual context creates language barriers and presents challenges, but it also provides opportunities!

So don't let uncertainties hold you back because you could miss a lot of great chances.

    1. Work better together

Efficient communication is crucial in a work environment. If you don't speak the same language, many things can quickly go wrong. However, do not make the language differences a bigger issue than they are but create a climate where open communication is key.

Avoiding each other is no solution, so embrace the language differences instead and don't see them as a barrier you cannot cross.

Let go of the perfectionist in you and keep communicating even if it's not without mistakes.

By communicating more often, you get to know one another better and you will feel more confident in communicating with people in another language.

This way, your professional relationship will progress, and you will work together more efficiently and avoid mis-communication.

    2. Increase productivity and creativity

A brainstorm with colleagues, feedback on a presentation ...

When you bring people together, many ideas quickly flow, information is exchanged and knowledge is shared.

So speaking the right language not only facilitates communication, but also enables colleagues to learn from each other, test ideas against each other and give feedback.

    3. Strengthen your connection

A friendly chat with a colleague? Of course!

But having to chat in another language might make your spontaneous chat a task you'd rather avoid.

Nevertheless, informal contacts are important for bonding with your colleague and strengthening your relationship.

So don't avoid a conversation even if it is difficult.

    4. Do not miss out on opportunities

Where once you could easily stay within the comfort of your own mother tongue, you are now increasingly faced with opportunities that reach beyond your first language and national borders.

Do you not want to miss any opportunities and make the most of every growth opportunity? Then it is important to broaden your language proficiency.

Don't let the language difference be a reason for not doing something because you can work on that!
