    Depending on the context or circumstances you find yourself in there are various ways to say goodbye to someone in French. We give you an overview of useful - more or less formal - expressions you can use in French in a formal, work setting.

    1. Informal ways to say goodbye in French

    The most basic way to say goodbye to someone, is just saying 'Au revoir'. Saying au revoir is very common. You can use this in any setting. Of course, there other options too:

    • Au revoir!
    • À plus (tard).
    • À la prochaine.
    • À bientôt.
    • À demain / À la semaine prochaine / À lundi ...
    • (Au revoir!) Bonne journée / Bon après-midi / Bonne soirée / Bonne nuit.

    2. Formal ways to say goodbye in French


    • Au revoir. 
    • (Au revoir.) Bonnen journée / Bon après-midi / Bonne soirée / Bonne nuit.
    • Bonne continuation.
    • (Au revoir.) Ravi(e) d’avoir fait votre connaissance.
